DarkThemeCaptain Support

DarkThemeCaptain changes supported website colors in Safari on Mac, iPhone and iPad. Choose a dark or warm theme, follow your system appearance, keep the theme on, or use a daily schedule.

Get started

  1. Install DarkThemeCaptain and enable its Safari extension in Safari settings. On iPhone and iPad, open Settings, then Safari → Extensions (under Apps on newer system versions).
  2. Open a website in Safari, allow the extension access when Safari asks, and open DarkThemeCaptain from the extensions menu. Reload the page after granting access if needed.
  3. Choose Dark or Warm, then select System, On, Off or Schedule. System follows your device's light or dark appearance; Schedule uses the start and end times you choose in your device's local time.
  4. Apply the theme to all permitted websites or only the websites you select. A saved website override lets you control whether a particular site's theme is active.
  5. Choose Off for the current website to restore its original appearance. Reset this website removes its saved override and returns it to your general settings; Safari website permissions are managed separately.

What to expect

Compatibility depends on the website. Some layouts, gradients and embedded content may keep their original colors, and very large pages are processed within a limited budget. Photos, videos and SVG images are kept in their original colors. The schedule takes effect on permitted pages while Safari and the extension are active; it is not a background alarm.

Permissions and privacy

Safari controls which websites the extension may access so it can change supported page colors. Selecting a site in DarkThemeCaptain does not grant Safari access by itself. You can review or revoke website permissions in Safari settings.
