What belongs in the pinned area
Email, calendars, dashboards and a small number of daily services are typical pinned-tab candidates. A research article, receipt or one-off admin page is usually better as a bookmark, ordinary tab or item in a temporary workspace.
Too many pinned tabs recreate the same recognition problem as an overcrowded tab bar. Keep the threshold high and periodically remove pins that are no longer part of your routine.
Pinning and organizing are different
Pinning gives a page a stable compact position in Safari. It does not sort all remaining tabs, detect duplicates or explain which windows contain related pages. TabCaptain complements pins with search, sorting and automatic domain grouping, all included free.
TabCaptain also supports custom work groups with Lifetime Premium. Use those for app-managed collections whose membership is based on work rather than permanent Safari placement.
A simple decision rule
Pin a frequently used service. Bookmark a durable reference. Save a session before suspending a temporary project. Search for an ordinary open page. This keeps each system small enough to remain useful.
- Recurring service: pin.
- Permanent reference: bookmark.
- Temporary project: group or session.
- Already open page: search before opening another copy.
